This week, some Ukrainians residing in the US under a humanitarian program received incorrect emails stating that their status had been canceled.
According to Reuters, as reported by "European Truth".
The email stated that their status was revoked and they had seven days to leave the country, or else "the federal government will find you".
"If you do not leave the United States immediately, you may become the subject of potential law enforcement actions that could lead to your removal from the United States. DHS is terminating your humanitarian status. Do not attempt to remain in the United States", the message read.
However, on Friday, April 4, a spokesperson for the US Department of Homeland Security clarified that the email was sent in error and that the program for Ukrainians, established after the Russian invasion in 2022, was not terminated. It remains unclear how many Ukrainians received this email.
On the same day, the Department of Homeland Security sent a follow-up email confirming that the previous order was incorrect and that "the conditions of your humanitarian status remain unchanged at this time".
It is noteworthy that in January, following Donald Trump's inauguration as president, officials in the Department of Homeland Security ordered the suspension of several programs that allowed migrants to temporarily reside in the US, including a key initiative permitting entry for Ukrainians.
