The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has officially commented for the first time on the operation conducted in Pokrovsk, Donetsk region. The landing of special forces troops by helicopter around the city is deemed successful.
The forces of the “Timur Special Unit” of GUR continue operations in strategically important areas of Pokrovsk from a logistical standpoint. Intense battles with Russian occupiers are ongoing. After a successful airborne operation, special forces took control of designated positions, established a ground corridor, and reinforced their ranks with additional units,” the statement said, accompanied by video footage of combat operations.
GUR noted that combat actions are continuing, aimed at thwarting the enemy’s attempts to expand their fire influence on logistics in the Ukrainian intelligence’s area of responsibility. Other special units of the GUR are also carrying out combat missions in the sector.
For personnel safety, operational details are currently not being disclosed.
It is worth noting that the operation in Pokrovsk is personally commanded by the head of GUR, Kyrylo Budanov, who is on-site. The operation's goal is to secure supply routes for Ukrainian forces. Previously, Russian authorities claimed that Pokrovsk and its neighboring city Mirnograd were allegedly surrounded, which the Ukrainian side denied while acknowledging a “difficult situation” in that area of the front.
Additionally, Russia claimed that they had “prevented the landing of GUR special operation forces” around Pokrovsk and that all 11 troops who landed from the helicopter were supposedly destroyed. Meanwhile, the 7th Rapid Response Corps of the Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported ongoing active cleaning of the northern part of the city from occupiers.
