Vasyl Maliuk, the head of the Security Service of Ukraine, announced the destruction of one of the three 'Oreshniks' in the summer of 2023. He revealed this information during a briefing.
"We had not mentioned this before, but we can confirm that one of the 'Oreshniks' was successfully eliminated on their territory, specifically at Kapustin Yar, thanks to the efforts of the GUR, SBU, and SVR," he stated.
Maliuk emphasized that "the destruction was completely successful." He also noted that the operation was not publicized, and only the President of Ukraine and a few foreign leaders were informed about it.
"This occurred at a time when the term 'Oreshnik' was not widely known, and the Russians had not yet threatened with it. If I am not mistaken, this successful operation took place the summer before last," he added.
As of June, President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that out of 39 Russian companies producing 'Oreshnik' ballistic missiles, 21 were still not under sanctions.
