The Kherson region has allocated 50 million hryvnias from the regional budget for the purchase of materials to cover roads with anti-drone nets, sufficient for 60 kilometers. This is reported by "News of the Sea of Azov".
"There are areas that are fully protected, but initially we planned more than 60 km – that’s what we can do with the regional budget. We have no more funds available," said Oleksandr Tolokonnikov, Deputy Head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration.
"We have reached out to the central government for additional funding. We are prepared to receive nets and will install them ourselves," he added.
According to him, the installation of nets has been ongoing for about a year. Initially, critical infrastructure was secured, then access to hospitals, and now they are focusing on roads. The priority is the roads used for entering and exiting Kherson.
"Currently, the number of attacks on the Mykolaiv-Kherson highway has significantly decreased. In addition to the nets, we also employ EW systems. The combination of nets and EW systems yields good results," stated the official.
Sometimes, Kherson receives materials for anti-drone tunnels for free from abroad. Entrepreneurs are willing to donate nets that are no longer in use. However, as Oleksandr Tolokonnikov notes, the materials need to be inspected.
"The nets being installed now have proven effective against drones – FPV, Mavic. There have even been cases where these nets stopped UAVs like 'Krylo'," the official added.
