Ukraine has successfully conducted crucial repatriation efforts, returning the remains of 1000 fallen soldiers.
This information was shared by the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War via Telegram.
Today, repatriation procedures took place as part of prior agreements. A total of 1000 bodies have been returned to Ukraine, which, according to Russian sources, belong to Ukrainian servicemen. Unfortunately, among the repatriated are 5 bodies of Ukrainian soldiers who died in captivity. They were included in the lists of “seriously wounded and gravely ill” for exchange according to the agreements made in Istanbul during the second round of negotiations. The Russian side continues to delay and fails to meet its obligations. Ukraine insists on the urgent release of all seriously ill and gravely wounded captives and is fighting for the return of all Ukrainian citizens. Among those returned today, there are also defenders from the Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Luhansk, and Kursk directions. In the near future, investigators in conjunction with experts from the Ministry of Internal Affairs will conduct necessary examinations and identify the repatriated bodies.
The repatriation efforts were made possible through the joint work of the Coordination Headquarters, the Joint Center under the Security Service of Ukraine, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for Human Rights, the Secretariat of the Commissioner for Missing Persons under Special Circumstances, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, and other security and defense structures. We express our gratitude to the International Committee of the Red Cross for their assistance. Special thanks to the personnel of the Central Office of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Joint Center for ensuring the transportation of the repatriated to designated state specialized institutions and organizing the transfer of the deceased to law enforcement representatives and forensic experts.
