The complete identification of approximately 6,000 bodies of fallen Ukrainian defenders transferred by the Russian side may take at least 13-14 months.
This was announced by Ukraine's Interior Minister Igor Klymenko during a national telethon.
Duration of identification for the 6000 fallen defenders
The minister noted that the Russian side has currently transferred 6060 bodies of the deceased.
“I can only estimate the situation approximately, as the analysis is still ongoing – regarding the condition of the remains and how many of them are actually in the packages provided by the Russian side. However, based on the most conservative preliminary estimates from our experts, it will take at least 13-14 months to identify these approximately 6,000 bodies,” stated Igor Klymenko.
He also emphasized that this indicated timeframe is the minimum required for the complete identification of all repatriated bodies.
Klymenko reported that to expedite this complex and crucial task, all relevant services – forensic examination, expert units, and investigators – are working in three shifts.
