Today marked the final stage of repatriation activities in accordance with the agreements established in Istanbul. A total of 1245 bodies have been returned to Ukraine, claimed by the Russian side to belong to Ukrainian citizens, including military personnel. Thus, Ukraine has received a total of 6057 bodies under these agreements.
Law enforcement agencies, together with experts from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, will carry out necessary examinations and identifications for the repatriated bodies.
This success is the result of coordinated efforts from the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, the Joint Center at the Security Service of Ukraine, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Office of the Parliamentary Commissioner for Human Rights, and other security and defense structures.
We express our gratitude to the International Committee of the Red Cross for their assistance in this process.
A special thanks to the personnel of the Central Office of the Armed Forces General Staff and the Joint Center for providing support in transporting the repatriated individuals to designated state facilities, as well as organizing the handover of the deceased to law enforcement authorities.
