In May, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense's sapper teams accomplished a significant task, clearing 7847 hectares of territory liberated from Russian forces, as reported by the Defense Ministry.
Throughout the month, 7660.21 hectares of agricultural land, 21.27 kilometers of roads, 9.44 kilometers of power lines, 40.24 kilometers of railway tracks, and 5.94 kilometers of pipelines were demined.
Additionally, 0.88 hectares of residential areas were cleared of dangerous materials.
During this period, military sapper teams discovered and neutralized 6818 explosive devices.
Since the onset of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, a total of 445,680 explosive items have been neutralized.
As of the end of May, there are 87 certified mine action operators working in Ukraine, according to the Defense Ministry.
The demining efforts in liberated areas involve units from the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the State Special Transport Service, explosive ordnance disposal units of the National Police, and the State Emergency Service.
According to the Ukrainian Law on “Mine Action”, humanitarian demining can only be conducted by certified mine action operators.
