Zelensky's statement: "This is an important signal that the Russians have finally begun to think about ending the hostilities. The world has been waiting for this for a long time. The first step towards a peaceful resolution of any conflict is the declaration of a ceasefire.

There is no point in continuing violence even for a day. We hope that Russia will confirm its ceasefire decision – complete, lasting, and reliable – starting from May 12, and Ukraine is ready to engage in dialogue.

Recall that in a nighttime statement on May 11, Putin expressed his intention for "direct negotiations" with Kyiv in Istanbul on Thursday, May 15.

Following the summit on May 10, the "coalition of the determined" has called for Russia to enter an unconditional ceasefire for 30 days starting May 12.
