Meta Platforms announced on Saturday the launch of new versions of its language model called Llama 4 Scout and Llama 4 Maverick.

This was reported by Reuters.

Meta states that Llama is a multimodal artificial intelligence system.

Multimodal systems can process and integrate various types of data, including text, video, images, and audio, and can convert content between these formats.

The company added that Llama 4 Maverick and Llama 4 Scout will be open-source.

Additionally, Meta previewed Llama 4 Behemoth, which it described as “one of the smartest LLMs in the world and our most powerful, serving as a teacher for our new models.”

Major tech firms are heavily investing in AI infrastructure following the success of OpenAI's ChatGPT, which has transformed the tech landscape and spurred investments in machine learning.

On Friday, The Information reported that Meta delayed the launch of the latest LLM version as Llama 4 did not meet the company’s expectations during technical tests, particularly in reasoning and mathematical tasks.

The company also expressed concerns that Llama 4 was less capable than OpenAI's models in conducting human-like voice conversations.
