OpenAI's ChatGPT is rapidly gaining traction. According to The Information, the number of paid subscribers rose to 20 million in just three months, a 30% increase from 15.5 million at the end of last year. This reflects a growing interest in AI's capabilities for coding, article writing, and medical and financial advice.
Currently, ChatGPT's monthly revenue stands at $415 million, which amounts to $5 billion annually. Besides the standard ChatGPT Plus subscription at $20/month, OpenAI offers a premium plan, Pro, at $200/month, further boosting revenues. The company also earns from its models through API usage, which brought in approximately $2 billion in 2023. If this growth continues, OpenAI could reach $12.7 billion in revenue by 2025, significantly surpassing the projected $4 billion for 2024.
Despite overall growth, the share of paid users has decreased from 5% to 4%. Meanwhile, the number of active users per week has risen to 500 million, which is 43% higher than the 350 million reported at the end of 2023.
As a reminder, OpenAI recently completed a new funding round, raising $40 billion. This marks the largest funding round for a private technology company in history. The company's valuation now stands at $300 billion.
