In the latest update of the "Diia" app, Ukrainians will be able to verify the presence of energy-independent xPON networks in their vicinity.
According to the Ministry of Digital Transformation, the map will provide a real technical overview and allow users to assess internet stability, facilitating effective planning for work and study during blackouts.
In the "Diia" app, users can discover:
- xPON providers servicing specific buildings or streets;
- availability of xPON technology, ensuring internet access without power;
- operational duration of the network during outages (for example, 4, 8, or 72 hours).
Users will be able to leave feedback on provider performance, fostering healthy competition: companies will be motivated to enhance their services, while users will know if promises match reality.
The ministry also noted that the map will illustrate coverage of energy-independent internet across Ukraine. "We will be able to identify "white spots" and collaborate with internet providers to eliminate them. This is especially crucial for frontline communities, where stable communication is a security concern," the ministry explained.
It was reported that in the autumn of 2025, when a new wave of blackouts began, the demand for xPON in various regions increased by 45% to 77%. Currently, 52% of subscribers utilize this technology, compared to just 30% in 2021. Leading regions with coverage over 70% include Vinnytsia, Chernivtsi, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kyiv, Cherkasy, and Volyn.
It’s worth noting that xPON (Passive Optical Network) is a technology that allows users to stay online without power for up to 72 hours. The optical cable connects directly to the apartment, and there is no equipment along the way that requires electricity. The main requirement is to power your router and ONU terminal.
