Google is preparing to launch two groundbreaking models of smart glasses featuring artificial intelligence, set to debut in 2026. This news was shared on the company's official blog.
The first model will serve as a "screenless assistant" equipped with microphones, speakers, and cameras for interaction with Google Gemini. These glasses will allow users to take photos, ask questions about their surroundings, and receive helpful real-time suggestions.
The second model retains all AI functionalities while adding a display within the lens. Users will be able to view step-by-step navigation, subtitles for live translation, or other important information right in front of their eyes. In both cases, the glasses will operate in tandem with a smartphone, which will handle the core data processing. The devices will be built on the new Android XR platform, designed for augmented reality and new gadgets.
Google is collaborating with Samsung on the hardware, while the design is being developed by Warby Parker and Gentle Monster, known for their expertise in creating stylish and lightweight eyewear. The company emphasizes that the new models will be comfortable for everyday use.
These products are expected to compete with the Meta Ray-Ban lineup, which already includes AI-enabled models with built-in displays. Additionally, rumors suggest that Apple is also preparing its own AI-capable glasses, which may debut in 2026.
