New insights reveal that 5G coverage in Ukraine could be achieved by 2030. This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Digital Transformation, Stanislav Prybytko, in an interview with Forbes. While the full rollout of the technology has been postponed due to martial law, testing is already scheduled in Lviv, Kharkiv, and Borodyanka.
Prybytko notes that nearly 22% of all smartphones in Ukraine, approximately 9.4 million units, are 5G compatible. He added that the launch of the fifth generation of mobile networks was planned for 2022, but the timeline shifted due to the ongoing invasion.
Regarding the selected regions for testing, Prybytko emphasized that Kharkiv was the president's idea, while Borodyanka symbolizes Ukraine's reconstruction after significant post-war devastation.
"Kharkiv is the president's initiative. Testing in Kharkiv proves that despite constant shelling, the city is progressing. Borodyanka is a symbol of Ukraine's recovery. It employs technologies for "Smart City" initiatives and there is a need for new mobile technology," Prybytko stated.
