Microsoft has announced the integration of the new GPT-5 model from OpenAI into its Copilot assistant, which is utilized across Microsoft 365, GitHub, Azure AI Foundry, and mobile applications. This update is already available to users.
Copilot now features a Smart Mode that automatically selects the best model based on the complexity of the request. This allows for a balance between response speed and depth of information processing.
In Microsoft 365, Copilot has improved context understanding, conversation sustainability, and response accuracy. GitHub Copilot with GPT-5 is available through a chatbot, VS Code, and a mobile app for paid users, while organizations can access it through policy settings.
In Azure AI Foundry, the new model is accessible via API with automatic configuration selection, multimodal scenario support, and extensive context. For regular Copilot users, GPT-5 is already available for free.
