Microsoft has announced that it will cease adding new features to Office for Windows 10 starting in August 2026. While security updates will continue until October 2028, new functionalities will become unavailable to users.

For Microsoft 365 Personal and Family subscribers, new Office features will stop being delivered in August 2026, coinciding with the end of support for business users on the Current Channel. Following this, on October 13, 2026, new features will stop for Monthly Enterprise Channel users, and on January 12, 2027, for Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel users.

Earlier this year, Microsoft had already announced the extension of security updates until 2028, but did not specify that new features would only be available on Windows 11.

This move is part of the phase-out of support for Windows 10, which officially ends on October 14, 2025. After this date, Office updates will be limited to security patches without new features.

Although Microsoft is urging users to upgrade to Windows 11, millions of devices worldwide still run on Windows 10. The transition has been slow, even though Windows 11 recently surpassed Windows 10 in usage share. Users can continue to receive free security updates for an additional year by activating the Windows Backup feature.
