OpenAI has announced its intention to launch the new GPT-5 model this summer. This model will combine key features from earlier versions – the multimodality of GPT-4 and the logical capabilities of the "o" series. The company aims to create a single powerful model that eliminates the need to switch between different versions, reports BleepingComputer.
"We aim to not only create a new flagship model but also to unify our series into one," said Romen Yue, head of developer relations at OpenAI.
He stated that GPT-5 will represent a "breakthrough in reasoning" and a "breakthrough in multimodality".
On the Reddit forum, Vice President Jerry Twarek added that GPT-5 is expected to enhance all current capabilities, making them better and more user-friendly without the need for switching.
The exact launch date has not been disclosed yet, but OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, previously hinted that the release is scheduled for summer 2025.
