On June 16, Microsoft announced that the data of its cloud service clients in Europe will be stored in Europe, in compliance with European regulations, under the operational control of local staff and full user oversight, as reported by Reuters.
The publication notes that European businesses and governments are increasingly concerned about the potential transfer of their data outside the continent, particularly to the USA. This concern drives American companies like Microsoft to implement new protective measures.
In April, Microsoft revealed plans to enhance user data protection as part of expanding its cloud and AI infrastructure in Europe. These plans include compliance with European laws aimed at limiting the influence of large technology companies.
On June 16, the company stated that any remote access by Microsoft engineers to systems storing and processing European data would occur only with permission and under the supervision of EU-based employees, in real-time.
Microsoft also noted that their sovereign private cloud is currently in limited access mode, with a full launch for all users expected later this year.
