The legendary Ukrainian chess player Vasyl Ivanchuk emerged as the champion of the Menorca Open 2025 held in Spain.

The grandmaster completed the event's 9 rounds undefeated, securing seven wins and drawing twice.

The tournament was played with classical time control, and players were not allowed to propose a draw until they made 30 moves. The total prize pool was 26,000 euros, of which Ivanchuk received 6,000 euros.

Notably, the last 'long' tournament won by the Ukrainian athlete was the Bydgoszcz Chess Festival, which occurred in the summer of 2023.

Previously, Vasyl Ivanchuk finished just shy of victory at the Reykjavik Open 2025, taking second place.
