On April 8, the first matches of the Champions League quarter-finals took place.

London's Arsenal secured a home victory against Real Madrid. Declan Rice scored twice with stunning free kicks, and Mikel Merino added another goal.

Notably, Rice became the first player in the Champions League knockout stage to score two goals from free kicks.

Ukrainian defender Oleksandr Zinchenko was on the bench for Arsenal, while Real's goalkeeper Andriy Lunin missed the match due to an injury sustained in the Copa del Rey.

In another match, Bayern Munich lost to Inter at the Allianz Arena. Lautaro Martínez opened the scoring for Inter, but Thomas Müller equalized in the 85th minute, only for Davide Frattesi to seal the win for Milan just a minute later.
