New sports routes are being developed in the capital. This was announced by Olena Hovorova, Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration, during a meeting of the Accessibility Committee.

«For Ukrainians, physical activity is not only about health and beauty but also about physical and mental recovery through sports. We have put a lot of effort into promoting such activities and, drawing on the experience of world cities, we have worked on creating sports routes in Kyiv. They will be circular and will cover all districts of the capital to ensure convenience for residents and visitors alike. We have planned and have already collaborated with Kyiv's running community on 16 routes. Each route will have a board with information about it (length, difficulty level, estimated time, etc.) and necessary signs. The routes will also feature an audio guide in Ukrainian and English, allowing people to learn interesting facts about the locations they run or cycle through. To listen to the audio guide, one will need to scan the QR code from the information board at the start of the route», said Olena Hovorova.

She added that fitness stations will also be installed along the routes so that people can exercise during their walks or runs.

All navigation on the routes will be funded by partners. At the same time, the «Sports Complex» will ensure that all signs are in accessible formats.

Lesya Petrivska, the head of the Accessibility Committee for people with disabilities and other low-mobility groups, emphasized the need to adhere to accessibility principles when creating such sports routes.

«I thank the city for its active stance that the interests of all residents, including those with disabilities and low-mobility groups, are considered when opening any infrastructure facilities. The mapping systems planned at the beginning of the routes will assist those with visual impairments. Additionally, translating audio guides into sign language will be important for individuals with hearing impairments», she emphasized.

In 2024, three routes are planned to be launched in the Holosiivskyi and Podilskyi districts.

Information about the sports routes will be posted in the Tourist and Cultural Hub.
