Ivan Dutchak, the President of the Ukrainian Karate Federation, shared his insights on the potential inclusion of karate in the Olympic events for 2032.
His comments were relayed by journalist Stanislav Lysak ahead of the 2025 World Championship.
"We are working closely with the available IOC officials to ensure that karate returns to the Olympic program during the 2032 Games in Brisbane. We are making various efforts, but not everything can be disclosed," Dutchak stated.
He also mentioned changes in global karate that aim to make it more appealing for television audiences.
"In the past, there were categories with over 100 participants. Now, the world federation is optimizing this, resulting in only 32 athletes competing at the World Championship. This is intended to increase interest in the events.
In Ukraine, we are launching various media projects, such as new karate podcasts. We are also communicating with different IOC representatives – ultimately, it depends on the subjective opinions of those who vote.
Much will also depend on the local government in Brisbane and who they wish to see featured. The global federation is doing a lot, and we are supporting them as best we can," Dutchak concluded.
Remember, the Olympic Games in Brisbane are set to take place from July 23 to August 8, 2032, and discussions are ongoing regarding karate's inclusion in the program.
