An extraordinary tale of willpower and motivation – 25-year-old Ukrainian powerlifter Dmytro Polovych, who has severe cerebral palsy, proved that limits are merely illusions.
On Sunday, November 2, at the World Powerlifting Championship in Budapest, he achieved a stunning victory by setting a new world record in deadlifting for athletes with CP.
Polovych became the first person in his category to lift 105 kilograms. His attempt sparked a wave of emotions in the arena, and the video of the record quickly spread across social media, garnering thousands of likes and comments.
Dmytro shared heartfelt words of gratitude in his Instagram post: "This story would not be possible without you. I want to thank everyone who wrote, believed, and supported me. Your energy was felt even from afar! A special thanks to my coaches – Anna Kurkurina and Tetiana Fuzi, who walked this path with me! And a huge thank you to everyone who supported my trip financially. Without you, I wouldn't have stood on this platform. This victory – is as much yours as it is mine! We did it together!"
Also, it’s worth mentioning that recently at the Ukrainian grappling championship among children aged 12-13, which took place in Khmelnytskyi, a touching incident occurred. A boy displayed great character by conceding victory to an opponent who couldn’t compete due to injury.
