At the 2025 World Rowing Championships in Shanghai, China, Ukraine's team achieved its first medals – one gold and one silver.
According to Suspilne Sport, two-time world championship medalist Anna Sheremet and Paralympic champion Roman Polyansky competed in the finals of the para-rowing single sculls in the PR1 class.
Anna Sheremet won gold, marking her first career world champion title. Previously, she had earned two bronze medals at world championships in 2022 and 2023.
Throughout the race, Sheremet maintained her leading position, uniting the titles of world and European champion in the PR1 class.
Roman Polyansky, who became a Paralympic champion in 2016 and 2021, secured silver at the Paralympics in Paris.
In Shanghai, the Ukrainian started in second place, trailing British rower Benjamin Prichard from the beginning. At the finish, Roman was 7.09 seconds behind Prichard.
Additionally, based on the results of the competition day, our athletes Stanislav Samolyuk and Daria Kotyk qualified for the PR3 mixed double sculls final, having finished second in the semifinals, and will compete for medals on Sunday, September 28.
