Serhiy Lapin, the director of the absolute heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk's team, stated that the Ukrainian deserves a break and has the right to decide whether to fight Joseph Parker.

This is reported by Ready to Fight.

"Throughout his career, both Oleksandr Usyk and our team have shown respect for all potential opponents and the rules governing professional boxing. In the last year and a half, Usyk has achieved remarkable milestones, becoming the absolute champion in the heavyweight division twice. This required immense physical and mental effort, as well as significant sacrifices. The champion deserves a chance to let his body recover from the exhausting training regimens and injuries that often go unnoticed. Most importantly, he deserves time to spend with his family. The key point: he has earned the right to choose his future and take the time needed to make this decision. So, let’s not rush things," said Lapin.

Previously, the World Boxing Organization (WBO) mandated Usyk to fight against the New Zealander. Usyk has already requested WBO to postpone the title defense due to injuries and fatigue. Reports indicated that the Ukrainian has been dealing with a long-standing back injury. Additionally, the boxer requested more time to rest because of his age, noting that he has been competing at the highest level in recent years.

It is worth mentioning that recently, Usyk knocked out British fighter Daniel Dubois and became the absolute world champion in the heavyweight category (over 90.72 kg) for the second time. He became the first since Muhammad Ali to accomplish this feat.
