Elina Svitolina (13) advanced to the quarterfinals of the prestigious WTA 1000 tournament held in Montreal, Canada. In the fourth round, the top-ranked Ukrainian defeated American Amanda Anisimova (7), the Wimbledon 2025 finalist.
The match lasted 1 hour and 27 minutes, concluding with a score of 6:4, 6:1.
Despite the convincing score, the match was far from easy. At the start of the first set, both players exchanged breaks, and in the 7th and 8th games, each managed to hold their serve despite multiple break points. With a score of 5:4 in favor of Svitolina, she converted her second set point in a challenging game on return and took the first set, 6:4.
The second set, although two games shorter, ended up lasting 3 minutes longer. At 1:1, Svitolina found herself in a lengthy battle on serve that exceeded 10 minutes, eventually winning the game on her eighth game point after saving three break points from Anisimova.
Svitolina then broke Anisimova’s serve and held her own, despite facing a double break point. Once the score reached 4:1, the match became easier for Svitolina, who advanced to the quarterfinals in Montreal.
Throughout the match, Elina served 4 aces, made 3 double faults, and achieved 4 breaks. Anisimova recorded 4 aces, 4 service errors, and 1 break from 9 chances.
