A Kyiv athlete has won a silver medal in the 97 kg weight category
The European Championship in Greco-Roman wrestling for under 20 athletes is taking place in Caorle, Italy. The Ukrainian team consists of wrestlers from various cities, and one of them will return home with a medal.
Yegor Yakushenko from Kyiv finished in second place in the 97 kg category. He participated in four matches. In his first bout, he defeated Villas Kristensen from Denmark (9:0). Next, he managed to overcome two 'neutrals' — Pavlo Savytskyi (8:0) and Saipula Gadzhimagomedov (10:2). In the finals, Yegor faced German wrestler Darius Kefer and was defeated. Thus, Yegor Yakushenko became the silver medalist of the European Championship. It’s worth noting that Yegor had previously faced this German wrestler in the finals of the World Championship in the fall of 2024, where he emerged victorious; this time, Kefer took the win.
Yegor Yakushenko trains at the Olympic Sports Club in the Desnyanskyi district of Kyiv. He is a student of coach Mykola Yelarinov.
