Ukrainian national team defender Gleb Varava has signed with Polish club Polonia Bytom.
This was announced by the club's press service.
For the 23-year-old player, this marks his second experience playing abroad. In the 2018/19 season, Gleb was part of the Estonian club Panthers.
Varava is a product of Kremenchuk. In Ukraine, he also played for Dnipro Kherson and Storm Odesa.
Last season, Gleb played 21 games for Storm in the Ukrainian championship, scoring 3 goals and providing 15 assists.
Since 2022, he has been regularly called up to the national team. In April, Gleb played all 5 matches in the World Championship in Division IA, without scoring any points but finishing with a +2 plus/minus rating.
In January 2025, he helped the Ukrainian national team win bronze medals at the Universiade.
It’s worth noting that Polonia recently signed goalkeeper Bohdan Dyachenko, who also represents the Ukrainian national team.
Polonia is a six-time Polish champion in hockey, but their last victory dates back to 1991. Additionally, the club has been a silver medalist three times and has won bronze medals three times, the last being in 2017.
