Ukrainian swimmer Andrii Hovorov has announced his retirement from Olympic swimming. This announcement comes a month after he expressed his intention to compete in the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Hovorov stated that the reason for his decision is due to changes in the Olympic program, particularly the introduction of the 50-meter butterfly event, which is his specialty.
He confirmed that he will not participate in the qualifying rounds for the 2028 Olympics, noting that while the Los Angeles games were a dream, new plans have emerged.
"This was not an easy decision. It was a journey, a sacrifice, and a calling. I thank everyone who was part of this. I contemplated for a long time, weighing everything that was important to me. Competing in Los Angeles was my dream. But life has other plans", — Hovorov stated in his message.
Hovorov emphasized that he is retiring specifically from his Olympic career but did not clarify if he will compete in other events.
