Dynamo defender Andriy Yarmolenko reacted to the decision of the Ukraine national team's head coach, Serhiy Rebrov, not to call him up for the upcoming Nations League matches.
Yarmolenko spoke about this in Denis Boyko's podcast.
"Honestly, it was unpleasant, but these things happen in football. I understood that if I wasn't called up, it means there are players who can deliver better results.
After being consistently called up for 15 years, when you suddenly don’t get a call, it’s natural to feel a bit down.
But what can you do? This is football and life. It means I need to work hard and perhaps next time I’ll get called up again. I hope for that," Yarmolenko stated.
In March, Yarmolenko returned to the national team and came on as a substitute in the second Nations League playoff match against Belgium (0:3).
This season, the 35-year-old player has scored 10 goals and provided 1 assist in 30 matches for Dynamo. Recently, he recorded his 113th goal in the UPL, matching Serhiy Rebrov's record.
Prior to this, the player discussed extending his contract with the Kyiv club.
