Ukrainian athlete Oleksandra Sholokhova has emerged as the European Karate Champion, securing her first continental gold medal.

The 24-year-old karateka triumphed over Latvia's Beata Hirvica in the under 61 kg category during the final match.

This victory marks Sholokhova's first gold at a continental championship and is a significant milestone for Ukraine at Euro-2025.

Earlier, Elina Selemeneva and Rizvan Talibov earned bronze medals, while Valerii Chobotar captured silver.

The European Championship also serves as a qualifying event for the World Championship scheduled in November in Cairo. Top athletes will have the opportunity to qualify for the global competition.

Previously, the Ukrainian team achieved third place at the 2023 European Championship in Guadalajara, securing a total of 4 medals: 3 golds and 1 silver.
