Ukrainian athlete Valeriy Chobotar has secured a silver medal at the European Karate Championship taking place in Yerevan (Armenia).

In the final match, the Ukrainian (weight category up to 84 kg) lost to Croatian competitor Ivan Kvesic.

Earlier, Elina Selyemenyeva and Rizvan Talibov won two bronze medals for Ukraine. Additionally, Angelika Terlyuga, who recently returned to competition after giving birth, was close to winning a medal.

It’s worth noting that this European Championship serves as a qualifying event for the World Championship, which will be held in November in Cairo. Champions, runners-up, and bronze medalists with the best performances will have the opportunity to qualify for the world competition.

The best result for the Ukrainian team at European Championships was third place in 2023 in Guadalajara (Spain), where they won 4 medals: 3 gold (Angelika Terlyuga, Andriy Zaplitny and the men's team) and 1 silver (Anita Seryogina).
