In Ukraine, there are approximately 240 fire incidents reported daily, resulting in about four fatalities and five injuries.

This information was shared by Roman Tsiren, head of the Emergency Situations Prevention Department, during a briefing at the "Media Center Ukraine".

According to Tsiren, when considering these figures over a year, they indicate a "worrying trend".

"On average, two thousand citizens die annually from fires, and five thousand may be injured," noted the DSNS representative.

The DSNS has also urged Ukrainians to refrain from lighting bonfires outdoors during the Easter celebrations.

"Our country has suffered greatly from explosive remnants. Some areas have been liberated, where many unexploded items are still found.

Especially with forests and parks being used, I do not recommend starting fires, as there is a significant increase in fires in ecosystems this year. Fires in ecosystems have risen by 68% as of today," explained Roman Tsiren.

The losses from emergency situations also include fatalities and injuries resulting from road traffic accidents, as stated by Roman Tsiren.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, nearly 26 thousand traffic accidents occurred in 2024, resulting in over 3.2 thousand deaths and more than 32 thousand injuries. This represents a 5-9% increase compared to 2023.

As reported by Oleksiy Biloshytskyi, the first deputy head of the Patrol Police Department, the most common cause of traffic accidents with casualties is speeding, which accounts for nearly 39.4% of cases.

Other frequent causes of accidents included violations of maneuvering rules, crossing intersections and pedestrian crossings, as well as driving under the influence of alcohol.

"If we also consider traffic accidents that result in six thousand of our citizens dying, these are colossal human losses we are facing," concluded the head of the Emergency Situations Prevention Department.

It is worth noting that only 55 Ukrainians died from domestic fires in the first six days of 2025. Fires occurred due to electrical short circuits, non-compliance with heating device usage rules, and careless handling of fire, including smoking in bed while intoxicated.
