Poland intends to be the first nation to restore air connections with Ukrainian cities as soon as the airspace over Ukraine is reopened for civilian aviation.

This was stated during a press conference in Warsaw by the Polish government’s commissioner for the reconstruction of Ukraine, Pawel Kowal, according to Ukrinform.

Poland wants to resume flights to Ukraine

“The Ukrainian side is aware of our position: we want the first flight after the opening of the sky [over Ukraine – ed.] to be between Poland and Ukraine. This is a crucial element that PAŻP [Polish Air Navigation Services Agency – ed.] and Polish airlines are preparing for,” emphasized Kowal.

He noted that Poland’s aviation sector is among the most prepared for rekindling close cooperation with Ukraine. He reported that both Polish and Ukrainian representatives have already conducted two specialized seminars on this topic.

Kowal mentioned that Poland’s involvement in the reconstruction of Ukraine is based on three main pillars: logistics, export support, and investment stimulation.

“The first pillar is logistics, which stems from Poland’s geographical position... The second is export as a driving force for trade... The third pillar is investment in Ukraine,” he concluded.

The Polish airport near the border with Ukraine is now protected by Patriot systems.

This airport is vital for Ukrainian logistics amid the ongoing conflict.

In March 2024, Ukraine initiated official talks with aviation regulators in the USA and the European Union regarding the resumption of passenger air services with Ukraine.
