On April 16, a shocking incident occurred in the capital of Ukraine, Kyiv, when an unknown assailant attacked journalist Yuriy Makarov, inflicting stab wounds.
This information was reported by the Ukrinform agency, referring to Mykola Chernotytskyi, the head of the National Public Broadcasting Company of Ukraine.
The attack took place late in the evening of April 16.
The journalist was urgently hospitalized, and his condition is classified as severe, although there is currently no threat to his life.
The National Police of Kyiv has launched a criminal investigation regarding this attack, which occurred in the Solomianskyi district of the capital.
The case is being investigated under Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – intentional grievous bodily harm.
Preliminary findings indicate that the assailant approached the 69-year-old Kyiv resident, who works for a national media outlet, and suddenly stabbed him before fleeing the scene.
A forensic team worked at the scene, and police seized the weapon and other evidence. Measures are being taken to apprehend the attacker.
