The Kyiv City Council has endorsed an initiative to introduce cashless payment systems for fares on routes served by private carriers.
This information is confirmed in the Kyiv Council's response to the petition.
It is known that since 2018, Kyiv has implemented cashless payment options for city public transport without restrictions on the ownership form of carriers.
Therefore, as of today, under the current Ukrainian legislation, the Automated Fare Collection System (AFCS) is technically ready to connect all passenger carriers in Kyiv. This connection is carried out based on a service agreement with the AFCS operator.
From May to August 2023, one of the routes serviced by a private carrier was connected to the AFCS in test mode. The testing results confirmed the system's readiness to work with private carriers.
The response states: "Considering that the issue raised in your electronic petition No. 13388 'Introduction of cashless payment for fares on private carrier routes' will enhance the quality of passenger transport services, the executive bodies of the Kyiv City Council will continue to take action within their authority."
As a reminder:
- In December 2023, the Kyiv authorities did not support the petition for installing validators in city taxis for cashless fare payments.
