Kaja Kallas, the chief diplomat of the EU, called on European leaders on April 14 to refrain from participating in the May 9 celebrations in Moscow and instead show solidarity with Ukraine.
According to Politico, Kallas made this statement during a press conference in Luxembourg after a meeting of foreign ministers.
She stated, "It was clearly articulated that any participation in the May 9 parades in Moscow would be taken seriously by the European side, given that Russia is indeed waging a full-scale war in Europe".
Kallas emphasized that the EU does not wish for any potential new member to partake in the May 9 celebrations.
As reported by Politico, Putin has invited leaders from China, India, Brazil, as well as Slovakia and Serbia to the May 9 celebrations.
Kallas called on all EU member states to visit Kyiv more frequently to demonstrate support for Ukraine.
To recall:
- Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico plans to visit Moscow on May 9 at Putin's invitation.
- U.S. President Donald Trump stated he has no intention of going to Moscow for what Russia calls Victory Day on May 9.
- The Ukrainian government has invited European dignitaries to Kyiv on May 9 to showcase diplomatic strength against the annual military parade of Putin in Moscow on the same day.
