On April 13, 2025, a missile strike on Sumy led to the tragic death of talented musician Olena Kohut. She was a soloist-organist at the regional philharmonic and an artist at the local theater, also teaching at a college.
Her colleagues from the Sumy National Theater and the philharmonic announced her passing.
"This day brought an irreplaceable loss to our community. Olena was a light in our lives, a true professional, and a loyal friend. Her music will always remain in our hearts," they stated.
Colleagues from the arts college noted that she was an exceptionally talented pianist, always full of energy and new creative ideas.
Olena became a true mentor to her students, helping them unlock their potential and believe in themselves.
She not only imparted musical knowledge but also taught kindness and optimism.
"Her talent and deep understanding of music captivated everyone who had the fortune to hear her," they added.
In addition to her teaching, Olena performed abroad, singing the national anthem of Ukraine in historic sites across Europe to promote Ukrainian culture.
Olena is survived by her mother, husband, and children.
Colleagues promise to inform about the date and place of the farewell later.
Recall that on April 13, Russia launched a missile strike on Sumy, resulting in at least 32 casualties, including children.
