In the Kyiv City Council, a significant event took place: a new deputy head of the City Accessibility Committee was elected. Hennadiy Yevseyev, president of the All-Ukrainian Organization of Visually Impaired Persons “Generation of Successful Action,” took on this role. This was reported by the Kyiv City Council Commissioner for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Lesya Petrivska.
“The Accessibility Committee has two deputy heads – one from the city administration and one from public organizations. The collaboration between authorities, experts, and the public is essential for making decisions on accessibility. We are looking forward to constructive cooperation,” Lesya Petrivska emphasized during the meeting.
Members of the committee also discussed the response from the Ministry of Community Development about the application of current building regulations for establishing safe pedestrian paths at surface crossings. Relevant services will explore the possibility of experimental solutions in Kyiv.
Additionally, the heads of the accessibility committees at district state administrations reported on their work in 2023 and provided information on the accessibility levels in the capital.
Lesya Petrivska added that Kyiv, as the capital, must not only meet modern standards of accessibility but also serve as an example for other cities in Ukraine.
“The City Accessibility Committee is working towards making Kyiv more inclusive. We need to evaluate the situation on the ground, identify issues, and look for common solutions to improve infrastructure accessibility. We are actively engaging experts and the public in all processes, as together we can solve problems more effectively,” Lesya Petrivska concluded.
The meeting included the Deputy Head of the KCSA Marina Honda, Kyiv City Council deputies, and representatives of civil society.
