The US Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, is set to visit Kyiv this week to initiate talks on involving American companies in the extraction of Ukraine's natural resources.
This was reported by Bloomberg, citing its sources.
Bessent will be the first member of Donald Trump's cabinet to visit Ukraine.
Mike Voltz, Trump’s national security advisor, stated on Sunday that discussions about future aid to Ukraine would take place this week.
On February 3, US President Donald Trump expressed interest in negotiating an agreement with Ukraine for rare earth metals and other resources in exchange for military supplies.
Later, Zelensky noted that he plans to meet with high-ranking US officials.
"We need to cover these costs, and this will be a partnership with Ukrainians regarding their rare earths, natural resources, oil and gas, as well as purchasing our products," Voltz said during an appearance on NBC's "Meet the Press." "These discussions will take place this week," Bloomberg quotes Voltz.
