In Ukraine, Military Counterintelligence Day is celebrated, honoring the officers of the Security Service of Ukraine.
This significant holiday was established in 1991 by President Leonid Kravchuk’s decree, marking the inception of military counterintelligence in an independent Ukraine. This department of the SBU plays a crucial role in the nation's security framework.
General Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, extended his greetings to the counterintelligence officers on this special day.
He stated, "On this day, we pay tribute to the military counterintelligence officers who actively neutralize enemy spy networks and unveil spies, saboteurs, and traitors."
Syrskyi emphasized that during the war for Ukraine's independence, the role of counterintelligence officers is exceptional, as they operate on the front lines of the “invisible front,” detecting and disabling Russian intelligence networks in the rear.
"Today, I bow in memory of every brave Ukrainian counterintelligence officer who laid down their life in the fight against the Russian empire of evil. A heartfelt thank you to our counterintelligence officers for each thwarted plan of enemy agents and for saving the lives of Ukrainian citizens. I sincerely appreciate your vigilance, professionalism, and loyalty to the oath," he noted.
