The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant has regained access to backup power supply for the first time in six months following the completion of repairs on the second transmission line. This was reported by the press service of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
The connection of the 330 kV Ferroalloy-1 transmission line to the NPP marks a significant step in averting a nuclear disaster.
"Due to the damaged sections being in an active combat zone, complex negotiations with both parties were required to establish carefully coordinated temporary ceasefire agreements to allow technicians to work without risking their lives. This took several weeks, and now the plant once again has access to two power supply lines," said Director General Grossi.
Repairs on the damaged section of the Ferroalloy-1 line began on Saturday morning, approximately three kilometers from the NPP perimeter after the area was cleared of mines.
Technicians repaired the damaged cable between two pylons, while the IAEA team monitored their work. The line, which had been disconnected since May 7, 2025, was finally reconnected to the plant that evening.
For the first time since May 2025, the NPP again has a backup source of external power supply.
