The Ukrainian government has introduced new regulations for participants in the gambling market aimed at combating gaming addiction. The Ministry of Digital Transformation announced that the Cabinet of Ministers has approved a resolution that governs the gambling business.
The primary goal of this initiative is to protect individuals from ludomania, a serious issue affecting society.
The new regulations explicitly define pathological and problematic gaming behavior for the first time, enabling timely responses to behavioral changes indicative of potential addiction.
According to the resolution, gambling operators are required to monitor player behavior. If signs of addiction are detected, the game for that individual will be halted, although winnings will still be paid out.
Additionally, operators must block accounts at the player’s request, making further deposits and participation in games impossible.
Moreover, players will not be allowed to gamble without setting limits on time and spending. Operators will ensure compliance with these limits and will regularly remind players of their gaming time and expenditures, providing options to continue or stop playing.
Furthermore, market participants are required to counsel players on gambling addiction and inform them about the risks of ludomania.
