The situation at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant raises significant concerns. This has been reported by the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.
“In response to President Volodymyr Zelensky's directive, the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, alongside the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is working with international organizations to comprehensively inform about the actions of Russian occupiers at the Zaporizhzhia NPP, which pose a direct threat to nuclear and radiation safety not only for Ukraine but for the entire region,” the Ministry emphasized.
It is noted that the plant currently operates solely on backup diesel generators, with fuel supplies expected to last for 10 days.
IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi stressed that this situation is unstable from the perspective of nuclear safety, as a complete shutdown of backup systems could lead to a risk of nuclear fuel meltdown.
Previously, the President of Ukraine highlighted the need to draw global attention to this urgent situation.
