On September 13, the inaugural World Tram Driver Championship, titled «1st Official World Tram Driver Championship», will commence in Vienna. Ukraine will be represented by the Kyivpastrans team.
The primary goal of this event is to promote the profession of tram driver, enhance safety standards, and improve passenger service, as well as to foster cultural exchange among participating countries.
The championship program will feature tests on stopping accuracy, maneuvering on difficult track sections, and response speed in emergency situations. The tasks are designed to assess the professional training and adherence to safety standards during passenger transport.
Representing Kyiv and Ukraine will be experienced tram drivers Galina Zahorna and Svitlana Afanasieva from Kyivpastrans, who have previously participated in European TRAM-EM competitions. Prior to their trip to Vienna, the participants underwent extensive training.
The World Championship (TRAM-WM) is a continuation of the European TRAM-EM competitions, which have been held since 2012. Now, the world tournament will take place once every three years.
Notably, in 2022, Galina Zahorna won a silver medal at the European Tram Driving Championship held in Leipzig, Germany.
