On September 12, Prince Harry made an unexpected visit to Kyiv at the invitation of the Ukrainian government, expressing his desire to do everything possible to assist in the recovery of servicemen severely injured during the war with Russia.
This information was reported by The Guardian.
According to the publication, Prince Harry and his team from the Invictus Games Foundation plan to introduce new initiatives to support the rehabilitation of the wounded, with the potential for expanding assistance across all regions of Ukraine.
In a conversation with Guardian during a night train ride to the capital, the Duke of Sussex remarked, "We cannot stop the war, but we can do everything possible to aid the recovery process."
"We can continue to showcase the human faces of this war - those involved and everything they have to endure. This must remain at the forefront of public attention. I hope this trip helps raise awareness, as it’s easy to become indifferent to what’s happening," added Prince Harry.
The prince shared that he was initially invited to Kyiv by Olga Rudneva, the founder and CEO of the Superhumans Rehabilitation Center in Lviv, where they treat injured individuals with amputations. Although he visited the center in April, their chance meeting occurred several months ago in the USA.
"I bumped into Olga in New York. It was a chance encounter, and I asked her how I could help. She said, 'You would have the greatest impact if you come to Kyiv.' Then, the official invitation came. In Lviv, the war is not very noticeable - it’s located far in the west. But this will be the first time (in Kyiv - ed.) that we will see the real destruction of war," Prince Harry noted.
During his trip to the Ukrainian capital, the prince is set to visit the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in World War II. He is expected to spend time with 200 veterans who have also been invited. The trip to Kyiv will allow him to interact with veterans and witness some of the devastation firsthand, the prince stated.
He is also scheduled to meet with Ukraine's Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.
