OpenAI has entered into an agreement with the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) allowing federal agencies to access ChatGPT Enterprise for just $1 per agency over the course of a year. This is reported by TechCrunch.

This initiative took effect the day after GSA added OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic to its list of approved artificial intelligence providers for civilian agencies. Their tools are now accessible through the MAS system, which facilitates AI usage for government entities without the need to negotiate separately with each vendor.

GSA Commissioner Josh Grünbaum encouraged Google and Anthropic to follow OpenAI’s lead and collaborate with the government. It remains unclear whether these companies will offer similar terms.

In addition to basic access to ChatGPT Enterprise, OpenAI provides agencies with unlimited use of its advanced models for an additional 60 days, along with access to a community of government users and educational materials for utilizing OpenAI tools.

Data security concerns remain a key issue in the dialogue between AI providers and U.S. government structures. GSA requires assurances that confidential information will not be included in model training sets. OpenAI, in turn, assures compliance with all security protocols for government users.

The OpenAI offer comes following the release of a new AI development strategy by the Trump administration, which includes the expansion of data centers and deeper integration of AI into government processes.
