On July 29, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a new law that enables individuals over the age of 60 to enlist in military service under contract.

This document stipulates that, with the written consent of the unit commander, citizens deemed fit by a military medical commission can be accepted into military service. These service members can hold non-combat positions, including ranks from privates to officers. Contracts for individuals aged 60 and above are signed for one year with the option for extension. For officers of this age, approval from the General Staff is required. Those in this category will undergo a two-month trial period, and if they do not meet the necessary standards, the contract will be terminated.

Should the state of martial law be lifted or canceled, all contracts of this nature will automatically become invalid.
