In the past six months since the launch of the "eBook" program, 18-year-olds in Ukraine have spent over 91 million UAH on books.

This information was reported by the Ukrainian Book Institute (UCI).

A total of 91,533,898.18 UAH was spent under the program. The youth primarily chose online bookstores, contributing 56,912,213.33 UAH (62.18%). Meanwhile, 277 stationary bookstores across the country received 34,613,193.85 UAH (37.82% of total spending).

According to UCI, since March 2025, about 3,000 applications are received weekly, with women predominantly using the funds for books.

"Approximately 20.12% of program participants received money on their cards but did not use it to buy books. The reasons for this can vary, including a lack of awareness about the time limits (the money must be spent within 3 months of receipt). Unused funds are redirected back into the program and given to the next 18-year-old recipients who registered for it," UCI reported.

About the "eBook" Program

The "eBook" program is a government support initiative that allows Ukrainians who turn 18 to receive 908.4 UAH for book purchases over the course of a year. It was launched in mid-December 2024, with payments starting on January 3, 2025.

Funds can only be spent within three months on purchasing paper, electronic, and audiobooks in Ukrainian from bookstores and publishers participating in the program.

Currently, books can be purchased at over 200 stationary bookstores and 34 online shops. A complete list of bookstores is available here.
