On Wednesday, July 9, Pope Leo XIV held a significant meeting with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky at his residence in Castel Gandolfo.

This was reported by Vatican News, citing the press office of the Holy See.

During their discussion, the ongoing war and the urgent need for finding lasting and just pathways to peace were addressed.

“In a heartfelt conversation, the importance of dialogue as the best means to end hostilities was reaffirmed. The Holy Father expressed sorrow over the victims and reiterated his prayers and closeness to the Ukrainian people, supporting every effort aimed at the release of prisoners and the search for common solutions,” the communiqué following the meeting stated.

Furthermore, the Holy Father once again confirmed his willingness to receive representatives from Russia and Ukraine in the Vatican for negotiations.
